Met Gala 2023: Top Celebrity Outfits and Styles on the Red Carpet

This year’s Met gala 2023 is dubbed the biggest night of fashion. A-listers flock to Manhattan’s Metropolitan Museum of Art for what is affectionately called the “most extravagant” evening of the year. This year’s theme: “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” in tribute to the late designer.

Celebrities opted for an array of looks on the red carpet, all paying homage to this year’s theme and the late designer himself. While some donned archival pieces from brands that Lagerfeld founded and led (Chanel, Fendi), others paid homage to his beloved Birman cat, Choupette, by wearing or carrying accessories in her honor.

Alia Bhatt first appeared on the red carpet in a stunning white bridal gown by Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung. This new bridal white shade, the color of Chanel’s iconic wedding dresses, drew inspiration from Lagerfeld’s signature work and was a beautiful tribute to his legacy at the event.

Actor Jessica Chastain wore a platinum coif with shades, an homage to Lagerfeld’s signature look and a poetic way to show her support for the designer. She also wore a tiered tulle ballgown and accessorized with mega jewels.

On the other hand, Singer Janelle Monae embraced her mismatched black-and-white Thom Browne coat and accessorized it with a Choupette-shaped handbag. Lil Nas X took the cat-related theme seriously and donned sparkling silver body paint and a bejeweled eye mask.

Doja Cat and Jared Leto likewise came in cat costumes, with Doja Cat wearing an Oscar de la Renta hooded dress and Jared wearing a silver body paint, wig, and a thong shaped like his ‘cat’ Choupette.

Meanwhile, rapper Lil Nas X felt his presence in a sparkling silver thong and bejeweled eye mask with beaded whiskers referencing Lagerfeld’s feline. He also wore an oversized gold chain necklace.

Other stars like Maya Hawke and Gwendoline Christie opted for classic black-and-white evening attire, finishing with metallic platform boots. Actor Jonathan Groff picked a tuxedo with jeweled lapels. He added a bow and camellia-inspired tie while Margaret Qualley wore a playful Chanel Haute Couture lace mini from 1997.

The stars in the crowd wore their best red carpet outfits, with celebrities including Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, Yara Shahidi, Lily James, and Daisy Edgar-Jones picking their favorite styles on the red carpet. While some went for a more glamorous approach with a tuxedo and heels, other celebrities opted for a more simple look, opting for a sleeveless black lace mini dress, Jimmy Choo pumps, and a headpiece.

Besides the celebrity guests, several business weirdos were in attendance, with one getting his tuxedo. Gustav Magnar Witzoe, a Scandinavian business weirdo who has become a billionaire thanks to his father’s half of a salmon company, was among the crowd.

All in All, it was a night to remember and reminisce about the influence of the great and late Karl Lagerfeld.
