Matt Sequeira: Childhood experiences, New Music and More

    Childhood:

On his 7th birthday, Matt Sequeira’s parents decided to head Elvis Presley’s mansion located in Graceland, Tennessee. The visit inspired Matt to start dreaming about his possibilities as a musician. He became obsessed with the idea of becoming an entertainer.

“Once I got home from the trip, I would run up to family members during family gatherings and ask them to watch my Elvis impersonations,” said Matt. “I probably twisted my hips and lifted my lip about a thousand times; I had caught the music bug.” Matt had indeed caught the music bug.

    Music:

As a self-taught guitar player and songwriter, Matt Sequeira didn’t show off his talent until he was in high school. After taking piano lessons as early as the age of 7, Matt started off his music career by making covers of other songs in his bedroom. He coincidently had the opportunity to work on various records at the Capitol Records headquarters in LA. As his skills sharpened, Matt decided to move to Nashville to pursue an internship with Nathan Walters.

After spending some time there, he decided to take a short break from music to determine what genre he wanted to pursue, eventually choosing PopPunk.

“I was confused, I didn’t know which genre I wanted to pursue. I took a short break and decided to focus on producing for other artists,” said Matt Sequeira. “Finally, I realized my love for punk music. I decided to move back to California and pursue a career in that genre.”

In 2018, Matt had the opportunity to spend time in Portugal’s Azores islands performing sold out shows and selling his merch within the first week.

“It meant a lot to me since it was the first time I felt people connecting to my music. I can’t wait to travel the world and connect with many other fans internationally.”

    Projects:

Most recently, Matt dropped his debut project on all streaming platforms. The project’s name is “Weirdo” and is a collection of 5 PopPunk songs. You can listen to the EP in the link below.
