Lil Jon, King of Crunk, Helps Open up His Second School in Africa

What does Lil Jon, LeBron James, and French Montana all have in common? We’ll give you hint…it has nothing to do with music.

After opening the Abomayaw D.A. Kindergarten, Lil Jon returned to open his second school, in the same rural village in eastern Ghana. The project was a part of Pencils for Promise’s ongoing effort to better education. Pencils for Promise is an organization that helps bring quality education to countries like Guatemala, Laos, and Nicaragua and Ghana.

With the help of Jon’s $70,000 donation, Mafi Atitekpo D.A. Primary School has more than 300 children enrolled. In a statement released to AOL, the rapper said, “Last year [October of 2017] I went with my family to open up my first Pencils of Promise school in Ghana, and now to have over 300 kids already enrolled in my second school there is incredible!” He goes on to say, “It’s been really fulfilling to see the impact these schools have made on so many of these children’s and families’ futures.”

The school was opened just one year after he and PoP helped to open the Kindergarten. The King of Crunk revealed that he wanted at least one of the schools to be built in honor of his late mother, Carrie M. Smith.

“Lil Jon is one of our most loyal and passionate celebrity supporters, from his work in the field to donating his birthday to make two schools a reality, he continues to impact education needs for those in rural communities,” said Tanya Ramos, CEO of PoP.
