Is Matt Ryan Able To Put The Indianapolis Colts Over The Hump?

The Atlanta Falcons have traded former MVP, Matt Ryan, to the Indianapolis Colts, in return, for a 2022 third-round draft pick, reported CBS Sports. Long-time veteran is ready to join his new team due to the disrespect he felt by the organization. Once the news surfaced about the Falcon’s interest in Deshaun Watson, naturally, Ryan wasn’t too happy. Many believe he was one foot out the door anyway, but this was the last straw. The Atlanta Falcons seem to be throwing their weight around about wanting to acquire Watson. It didn’t help the matter that even teammates began to chime in. Rookie tight end Kyle Pitts via Twitter didn’t hold back his excitement with regards to a potential chance upon Watson’s arrival.

One can assume, that Ryan is feeling pretty good knowing the Falcons went all in for Watson. Yet, having to settle for Marcus Marriota. In all senses of the words, they “played themselves.” It is no secret many teams burned their bridges with their franchise quarterbacks pursuing Watson; however, not many are on the caliber of Matt Ryan. His former team owes Ryan almost $24 million at the start of next season. Yet, the Falcons are still willing to take the brunt of the hit in dead money, NFL-record $40.5 million.

Why is Indianapolis a good fit for Matt Ryan?

Matt Ryan is parting ways with the Falcons after 14 seasons and making historical runs. He was drafted third overall in 2008, and since then he’s never looked back. In the span of 14 seasons, he’s thrown 59,735 yards passing, and 370 touchdowns to only 170 interceptions, reported CBS Sports.

While there are moments to point out and see greatness, unfortunately, there are moments that are hurting his legacy. The significant incident happened in 2016 during the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. The Falcons held the lead for the majority of the game in a dominating performance, 28-3, going into the fourth quarter. However, this debacle of blowing a three-score lead and losing the Super Bowl has left the biggest stains on a legendary quarterback’s legacy.

Matt Ryan deserves more respect and will be welcomed with open arms by Colts nation. This fit is ideal for Ryan as he is careful with the football. He will have a stout offensive line and run game to help open up play action down the field. Not to mention, their defense while being inconsistent at times is an above-average defense. All in all, he’s surrounded by a good supporting cast and with his experience, he can help lead the Colts to the playoffs. They’ll have a fighting chance late in the season.
