Instagram is Cracking Down on All the Fake Love Shown on The App

Instagram is cracking down on all the fake activity experienced throughout the photo-sharing app.

Monday, the company announced that they’d start going through people’s profile and removing all inauthentic likes, comments, and followers, coming from third-party apps hired to boost people’s popularity. As of now, there’s an undisclosed amount of how many of these third-party apps the company plans to target.

In a blog post on their website, the company said: Every day people come to Instagram to have real experiences, including genuine interactions. It is our responsibility to ensure these experiences aren’t disrupted by inauthentic activity. Starting today, we will begin removing inauthentic likes, follows and comments from accounts that use third-party apps to boost their popularity.”

Users suspected of using the third-party apps will receive a notification, letting them know that their use of the apps has been removed. They’ll also be requested to change their passwords.

Recently, Instagram has been under scrutiny for not creating more authentic relationships with their more than 1 billion users. Earlier this year, co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, left the company. Sources say tensions had rose too high between the two and, Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in regards to difference of opinions.
