Ellen & Alicia Support Texas Teen

Ellen DeGeneres and Alicia Keys support DeAndre Arnold, a Texas teenager facing a graduation ban due to his dreadlocks. The school’s dress code restricts male students’ hair length, but Arnold questions the disparity with female students. As a result, he’s not allowed to attend school and faces suspension or reform school.

Regarding the students at alternative schools, Arnold told Ellen, “I wish the best for them, and I know they have good qualities in them, but I don’t deserve to be grouped with them.”

He shared with Ellen the cultural significance of his hair, reflecting his Trinidadian heritage. Arnold, an excellent student aspiring to be a veterinarian, pleaded for acceptance of different cultures at his school. Alicia Keys surprised him with a $20,000 college fund. Ellen urged the school to let him walk at graduation. It’s disheartening that hair length becomes such a concern in today’s world, but it brought him to the Ellen Show.

What are your thoughts about this dress code? Are dress codes still appropriate today?
