Eat All The Bananas You Can, They’re Going Extinct

    Bananas are literally going B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

If you love bananas you might want to stock up, because a fungus is about to destroy all bananas.

It is a deadly fungus that has destroyed banana plantations in Asia for the last 30 years! And, it has apparently made its way to Latin America. This is the area where most bananas grow.

The Colombian Agricultural Institute revealed that a strain of the Fusarium oxysporum fungus, called Tropical Race 4 (TR4) was found in banana plantations.

Feds declared a national state of emergency. They are ordering farmers to quarantine plantations and destroy crops in the north, where the fungus was discovered.

“What we’re having is an almost apocalyptic scenario where we’ll probably lose Cavendish [the most widely cultivated banana] as well,” Sarah Gurr, Exeter University’s chair in food security, told Wired.

“Once it’s in a country it’s very hard to get rid of it,” Dan Bebber said, a bio-sciences lecturer at Exeter.

Before the mid-20th century, wild banana varieties existed! They grew around the world, each with unique flavors, textures, and colors.

Unfortunately, nature demolishes itself time and again.

The rapid spread of the fungus could cause the end of the yellow fruit as we know it.

Farmers are working on developing different strands and types of banana before the epidemic.

But for now, the spread of the disease could mean the end of bananas.

Scientists say it’s a wake-up call for the modern farm industry.

Also, the disease was first discovered in Taiwan in 1989. It also spreads in the soil, easily transmitted via tractor tires, and work boots.

Subsequently, would the extinction of bananas affect you? Do you think this is just the beginning of a bigger issue?
