Doom Patrol Season 3 Trailer Breakdown

Doom Patrol Season 3 Trailer Breakdown

Alas, Doom Patrol season 3 is weeks away and excitement is building over the unexpected DC series. Now, we have a trailer to break down. Now, brace yourself as Doom Patrol has always been qyite trippy. There is so much happening in the trailer,  it may be difficult to understand the entirety of the third season plot. So, I will do my best to make sense of it.

    Doom Patrol
Doom Patrol. DC Universe, Vertigo Comics, HBO Max. Season 3 details as they come out.

Before you read the breakdown, first watch the following trailer to keep from getting too confused.

Doom Patrol Season 3 will be introducing us to Dead Boy Detective Agency and the supervillain group, Sisterhood of Dada, confirmed by the trailer. The latter was uttered by Jane and the former seems confirmed with every detail surrounding the word death.  Also we have a release date, September 23 on HBO Max. New episodes will air every Thursday after that.

First, What on earth is, “Piffle Paffle?”

Of Course, the phrase is uttered by Rita Farr. It suggests that she is trying to communicate something important to the team, almost tongue-tied if you will. What is the significance?

    Where Season 2 left us…

Last Season, If you remember, Candlemaker became corporal upon Dorothy’s wish and attacked the members of the doom patrol. This is after Candlemaker attacked Jane by Dorthy’s Behest. Then, the doom patrol members were trapped in wax, seemingly dead at the hands of the Candlemaker. The first episode (which is really the finale episode of season 2 that was delayed due to the pandemic) picks up immediately.

Fast Forward to Doom Patrol season 3. Now, they seem to be dead but living in a dream-like trip in some world possibly in death or a purgatory between life and death. Yet, they all seem so G*d**mn happy which makes me sad cause you just know they are going to wake up and remember their sh***y lives. Honestly, they deserve all the happy.

But, Alas that’s boring TV. So, Moving on. Here, there are glimpses of each of the moments that bring happiness. This could be trying to lure them into staying. If you remember via season 1, Mr. Nobody tried that same tactic to keep them from searching for Niles Coulder.

    Doom Patrol Season 3 Villians

Henceforth, let’s talk about and show some of the possible villains that will be featured in the third season. Some villians have been confirmed while others are teased via the trailer.

    Madam Rouge

Michelle Gomez portrays Madam Rouge in Doom Manor, a shapeshifting and elastic entity. Madam Rouge arrives with a clear mission, if only she could recall it. Also known as Laura De Mill.

Laura is an actress like Rita Farr that through an accident creates a Jeckyll and Hyde persona that is split in conciousness. Madam Rouge may have been manipulated by the Sisterhood of Dada to shift more towards the evil persona as it suits their mission. Madam Rouge is sent through time but in the process forgets why she is there which adds a bit of a mystery component. Meanwhile, as  her character and the viewers piece things together, the other villains keep them occupied.

    (Sisterhood of) DADA

    The Brain

Remember viewers got a glimpse in the flashback episode in season 1 in which Mento and the others take down the brain. His casing was seen in the background as a trophy of their battle. But, here, he is seen fully form with his brain intact.

    “Miranda” and Daddy Persona

    Miranda

Miranda as pictured above is actually their Daddy personality, meaning it’s the personality with the full emobiement of the pain and darkness living inside Kay Challis after the events of her trauma. The Daddy Persona stems from the well. And since, Miranda was lured to kill herself via the well, Daddy persona uses her forrm to trick and then destroy the other personalities in the Underground.

Danny the ambulance formally Danny the brick

    Danny the ambulance

If you recall Danny the Street was saved from the events of Mr. Nobody in the form of a brick that has been growing and rehabbing slowly in the background of the story. In the third season, new form of Danny emerges. It appears in the trailer that now Danny appears as an ambulance. And, if this follows comic book story at all may bring to fruition Casey Brinke. Casey Brinke is a character that Danny the Street creates to help communicate with the Doom Patrol. She becomes a superhero that Danny is able to conjure to help restore the Doom Patrol for his own self-preservation.

    Dead Boy Detective Agency

Dead Boy Detective Agency, its members appeared in Vertigo Comics which Doom Patrol is published. They’re made up of a living teen psychic and two dead children. The two screencaps here saying life and death may allude to this story telling.

To know more about this read my last article where I break the Dead Boy Agency and Sisterhood of Dada down further.
