Emerging singer and composer David July recently released a captivating new single titled “Hold My Own,” which puts his superb lyrical composition on full display as he utilizes energetic instrumentation and delivers a stunning musical piece.
David July chatted with us and answered our three specific questions. Check it out below.
HYPEFRESH: Let’s start by introducing ourselves. You know the basics, like your name, age, and where you’re from; you can share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.
David July: My name is David July, and I am a melodic hip-hop artist from Vancouver, Canada (21 years old).
HYPEFRESH: Can you tell us about your new single, “Hold My Own”?
David July: “Hold My Own” is my newest and lead single for my upcoming album, “Kaleidoscope.” This track was made when I was in Toronto during the summer; at first, it wasn’t a track I wanted to move forward with.
But after a few months and my return to the track, I knew it was special. I went deep into (yet still only touched the surface of) my past to come up with the sound of the song, and there’s a lot that people can relate to in it.
HYPEFRESH: What do you like most about being a music artist?
David July: I am still determining what I would do without being able to make music and having music available in general. I love how I can make something people genuinely love and remember for a long time. It’s a way of venting, and it’s a way of expressing relatability. It’s cathartic, and it’s everything.
