Canadian Singer-Songwriter Drew Now Released Her New Single Titled “TYPE”

Canadian singer-songwriter Drew Now hopes to reach out to as many people as she can suffering from chronic disease or whatever it may be in the form of her new single “TYPE.”
“TYPE” sees Drew Now displaying her wonderfully crafted vocals, which she utilizes on the fantastic upbeat love song incorporated with harmonies and well-structured instrumentations. She is a prominent, talented artist who represents an unexplored topic in today’s society.

Drew Now had a chat with us and answered our unique 4 Questions. Check it out below.

HYPEFRESH: To begin, let’s introduce ourselves. Share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with about your name, age, and where you’re from.

Drew Now: I’m Drew Now. I’m a 26-year-old Canadian living in Nashville, Tennessee. I started writing music when I was 11 years old. Funnily enough, I got sick and was forced to stay home for weeks.

My house was isolated back in Canada- it was a farm- so socializing at school was what I lived for. I had been taking guitar lessons, and one day as I was beginning to feel better but still not healthy enough to return, I was singing with my guitar. I wrote a mournful, silly song about rain.

It fit my mood, and I still remember it. The following year a talented producer named Jamie K. Aplin heard me singing at my school’s talent show. He pulled me aside and asked what I was singing. I said it was my song. I will never forget how his eyes lit up. We started working together after that.

He’d listen to my songs, critique them, and help improve them. He was hard on me and taught me to have tough skin and work under pressure. He treated me like an equal, and I loved it. I knew this was where I needed to be; singing and writing. It felt right then and still does.

HYPEFRESH: Can you tell us about your new single, “TYPE”?

Drew Now: My boyfriend Ryan is a Type 1 Diabetic. He was diagnosed at 9. He grew up to be every girl’s dream- hard working, kind, and successful. He manages his diabetes so well I sometimes forget he even has it. But he still has his moments, and it breaks my heart. There truly is not enough music normalizing the language around this disease. I wanted to change that.

I was up in Pennsylvania this summer on a writing retreat when one of the producers casually started working on a track. Suddenly words just started flowing, and in 45 minutes, she was done! When the chorus was written, we all felt “it.” It made us want to cry, laugh, and scream-sing it.

That’s when I knew TYPE was particular; she could make people feel more feelings than just one. The vocal you hear today is the same vocal from that first night. I loved TYPE when it was written, but when I saw Ryan’s response, I knew I had to release her. It made him feel good.

It made him feel seen and understood, and I started to believe TYPE could do that for other people too. TYPE was released on October 28th and is available on all streaming platforms.

HYPEFRESH: What do you like most about being a music artist?

Drew Now: What I love most about being an artist is that every day is different. I spend my days dreaming up new ways to say “I love you” or “I’m sorry” with my creative friends. I get to be there in the room when the magic happens.

My sister is a doctor. She talks about what it’s like to be in the delivery room when a mother holds her child for the first time. I’m not delivering babies, but I am walking away after a day in the studio with a song that wouldn’t have existed had we not sat down to write it. We toil over words, fight about melodies, and labor over harmonies. We pick and pull with our voices until it feels honest.

It’s challenging yet so rewarding. Then when, strangers like our song babies and sing them to us at concerts, knowing every word. That is just a WOW moment. I live for that.

HYPEFRESH: How can our readers follow you online?

Drew Now: You can follow me on TIKTOK, where you’ll hear me tell stories (Tiktok seems to enjoy my most embarrassing moments.) Instagram, Twitter, and Website for upcoming tour announcements (2023 is going to be a busy year)
