Austin City Limits Festival 2023: Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons

Headliners for the 2023 Austin Festival

Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, and Mumford & Sons will headline the 2023 Austin City Limits Festival. The two-weekend music event will occur October 6-8 and 13-15 at Zilker Park in the Texas capital. Other headliners include ’90s rockers The 1975, Shania Twain (weekend one), and the Lumineers. Organizers C3 Presents released the full lineup Tuesday morning.

The big-ticket names lead off the bill, but many lesser-known artists are also scheduled to perform. Country legend Tanya Tucker and folk-rockers Tegan and Sara are among the fest’s top-tier performers. Other genre-benders on the roster include British rap breakout Little Simz, boundary-pushing experimental artist Yves Tumor and Sudan Archives (weekend two)/ Melodic dance music kingpin FKJ, indie rockers Mt Joy and electric blues artist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram will also take the stage.

As usual, the organizers have made a point to emphasize diversity in this year’s line-up. They say this year’s lineup has 45% female performers and is “rich in LGBTQ+ artists, allies, and icons.”

This year’s festival will feature performances across nine stages. In addition to the headliners, the festival will feature appearances by Kali Uchis, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Maggie Rogers, Labrinth, Cigarettes After Sex, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Niall Horan, and Tove Lo. The full roster is available on the event’s website.

Lamar has become an international sensation and an icon to many younger audiences. He’s a rare act that can command a crowd like few others. His sets often conclude with him asking fans to raise their phones and join him in a sea of lights. He then passes a virtual bottle of water to everyone in the audience and toasts them for their successes and struggles.

It’s no wonder that the acclaimed rapper has been eager to headline ACL, and it’s an exciting moment for the storied festival. “I’ve dreamt of performing at ACL for a long time, and it is such an honor,” Lamar said. “I want to thank all the fans, staff, and partners for making this possible.”

Other big-name acts on the festival’s lineup are Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons, Alanis Morrissette, 1975, and the Lumineers.

In the local scene, Austin City Limits organizers have a knack for bringing up-and-coming artists to their home turf. This year, that includes hard rock breakouts We Don’t Ride Llamas, underground rap heavyweight Blakchyl and blazing punk outfit Die Spitz. Other locals include singer-songwriter Ben Kweller, psychedelic rockers Caramelo Haze and Nemagata, folk rockers Calder Allen and Kathryn Kirby and country legend Jimmie Vaughan.
