30 years later, Madonna’s infamous ‘sex’ book photos are up for auction for the first time! The queen of pop isn’t shy about sharing racy throwback pictures, but it’s the first time her topless photographs from a 1992 coffee table book are going to be sold. Christie’s, a leading art and luxury business, will host an auction this October where over 40 explicit prints taken by Steven Meisel are set to go under the hammer.
Madonna’s Infamous ‘Sex’ Book Photos Are Up for Auction For the First Time
Originally released in conjunction with her fifth album, ‘Erotica.’ The provocative photo book ‘SEX’ caused a global sensation in the early 1990s. The aluminium-covered publication featured photos of the pop icon, then 34, nude and simulating sex acts. She was alongside celebrities like Big Daddy Kane, Naomi Campbell, Tatiana von Furstenberg, and more.
Last year, Yves Saint Laurent celebrated the 30th anniversary of ‘Sex’ with the reissue of the book. The ongoing celebration will continue this summer and fall with a Christie’s auction. As well as exhibitions of the photographs in London (May 23 to 2 June). Also Paris (27 June to 6 July) and New York (30 September through October 6).
